On July 6, 2022, Council approved a report that included a feasibility studies related to aquatics and baseball. This is the framework for what we're discussing at the Catalyst Committee. The document deserves a close read.
Please take a look at the report on baseball and the aquatics facility for information about both respective projects. A new indoor pool has long been identified by residents as their leading recreation priority. Planning started well before the 2019 Recreation Master Plan was finalized. Council advanced this as a federal infrastructure grant application priority in 2018 and again in 2022. It's now a debate over how much and where, not if. Baseball is another matter. The public is seeing a new complex being pitched by the Regina Red Sox, but other options are under consideration. There's no business case here for a new Currie Field.
I'm approaching all of this with an open mind, and am excited about the possibility of revitalizing our recreation amenities and spaces. But it needs to be an evidence-based process.
Take a look at the report on-line.
